A striking natural rock formation carved from solid marble on the shores of General Carrera Lake, the Marble Caves (Cuevas de Mármol) rise directly from the glacial turquoise waters of Chilean Patagonia. Sculpted over some 6,000 years by the gentle, relentless lapping of the lake, these swirling chambers and columns reveal veins of blue, grey and white marble that shift in hue with the light and season, from cobalt in summer to pale silver in winter.

Reachable only by boat or kayak from the small outpost of Puerto Río Tranquilo along the legendary Carretera Austral, the site rewards travelers with a rare, almost otherworldly stillness.
