A natural crescent-shaped beach on Sardinia’s eastern coast, Cala Luna is one of the most celebrated shores of the Gulf of Orosei, reachable only by boat, on foot, or by sea kayak. Its pale golden sand curves beneath dramatic limestone cliffs pierced by shadowy sea caves, while a small freshwater lagoon fringed with oleander and bamboo threads down from the Codula di Luna canyon to meet the Mediterranean.

Named by shepherds who once trekked eight hours from Baunei and likened the journey to reaching the moon, Cala Luna remains wrapped in the raw, unspoiled character of the Barbagia and Ogliastra wilderness. Turquoise water shifts to deep sapphire beyond the shallows, framed by rugged karst formations that rise sharply from the sea, making this one of the defining panoramas of the Sardinian coastline.

Boats from Cala Gonone and hiking trails through the Supramonte massif offer access, rewarding visitors with a coastal sanctuary where geology, myth, and Mediterranean light converge.
