This is a sacred natural mountain sanctuary — a soaring karst pinnacle crowned by twin Buddhist temples suspended above an ocean of drifting cloud. Rising to 2,570 metres as the highest peak of the Wuling range, Fanjingshan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, its slopes cloaked in ancient subtropical forest found nowhere else on Earth.

At its summit, the sheer Red Clouds Golden Peak splits into two rock towers, each bearing a miniature temple — one dedicated to Sakyamuni Buddha, the other to Maitreya — joined by a slender stone bridge arcing across the void. Pilgrims who complete the 8,888-step ascent, or the crest-line climb, emerge onto this narrow perch where prayer flags flutter against sheer drops and shifting mist.

Revered for centuries as a holy Buddhist mountain, Fanjingshan blends spiritual devotion with extraordinary biodiversity, sheltering the endangered Guizhou golden monkey.
