A natural turquoise inlet carved into Gozo’s southeastern coastline, Ħondoq ir-Rummien unfolds like a fjord in miniature, its waters shifting from sapphire to jade as they slip between two flanks of golden limestone. Wild rosemary and thyme scrub cling to the cliff tops, releasing their scent into the salt air, while the rock descends in soft terraces toward a crescent of pale, fine sand.

Sheltered from the open sea, the bay’s clarity is almost startling: shoals of fish are visible metres from shore, and swimmers drift over sunlit shallows before the seabed deepens into cooler blue. Across the channel, the silhouette of Comino and its famed Blue Lagoon completes the horizon, framing one of Gozo’s most photographed panoramas.

Once a quiet fishing cove, the bay now draws locals and travellers alike for its snorkelling, gentle watersports, and unhurried Mediterranean rhythm, remaining, even in high season, refreshingly free of pretension.
