A natural and archaeological landscape of extraordinary scale, the Bagan Archaeological Zone unfurls across the plains of the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar’s Mandalay Region, where more than two thousand ancient brick stupas and temples rise from golden grasslands like a frozen sea of spires. Built between the 9th and 13th centuries during the height of the Pagan Kingdom, this UNESCO World Heritage Site remains one of the densest concentrations of Buddhist monuments on Earth.
