A natural turquoise lagoon carved into the karst heart of Bacuit Bay, the Big Lagoon is one of the defining wonders of El Nido’s Miniloc Island. Sheer limestone cliffs, draped in tangled jungle, rise almost vertically from water so clear and so intensely emerald that the seabed remains visible many meters down. The lagoon fans out into blindingly bright shallows where paddling bangka boats and rented kayaks glide silently beneath the towering rock walls, the only sound the echo of dripping paddles against stone.

Accessible only through a narrow tidal channel that boats must time carefully, the lagoon feels like a cathedral of stone and light, its acoustics hushed by the cliffs that enclose it on nearly every side. Long a sacred and practical waypoint for local fishing communities, it now anchors the classic El Nido island-hopping route, drawing travelers who come to swim, kayak, and simply drift beneath one of Palawan’s most photographed karst amphitheaters.
