A natural wonder of dramatic scale, the Baatara Gorge Waterfall — known locally as the Cave of the Three Bridges — is a seasonal cascade that plunges 255 meters into a Jurassic limestone sinkhole near the village of Balaa, in the highlands above Tannourine, Lebanon. Fed by melting snow each spring, the torrent falls in a triple free-fall through three stacked natural stone bridges carved over 160 million years, before vanishing into the moss-draped depths of the Balaa Pothole.

The chasm sits amid the terraced green slopes of Mount Lebanon, where wildflowers and pine forests frame the rim of an otherwise stark limestone rupture in the earth. Discovered in 1952, the site remains one of the most striking geological formations in the Levant, drawing hikers along the Lebanon Mountain Trail and photographers chasing its fleeting, thunderous flow. Best visited between March and May when snowmelt is at its peak, the gorge offers a rare, humbling encounter with deep time and raw natural force.
