A breathtaking natural beach and tidal estuary within Whitsunday Islands National Park, Whitehaven Beach stretches seven kilometres along the eastern shore of Whitsunday Island, composed of 98% pure silica sand so fine and white it remains cool even under the Queensland sun. At its northern tip, Hill Inlet is a tidal estuary where the shifting interplay of ocean currents and wind sculpts the sandbanks into mesmerising swirling patterns — a phenomenon best witnessed from the Tongue Point lookout, where turquoise, jade and pearl tones blend and reform with every tide. Lying within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and on the ancestral sea country of the Ngaro people, this landscape carries deep cultural and ecological weight far beyond its visual splendour. Accessible only by boat, seaplane or helicopter from Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island, the deliberate remoteness preserves an atmosphere of rare, unhurried wilderness.
