This pristine beach and tidal lookout is one of Australia’s most photographed natural wonders, set within the Whitsunday Islands National Park on the eastern edge of Whitsunday Island. Whitehaven Beach unfurls for seven kilometres in a ribbon of near-pure silica sand, so fine it squeaks underfoot and stays cool even beneath the tropical sun, meeting waters that shift from turquoise to deep sapphire.

At its northern tip, a short walking track climbs to the Hill Inlet lookout at Tongue Point, where shifting tides sculpt swirling patterns of sand and blue-green water into an ever-changing natural canvas. The scene is a favourite for seaplane and helicopter passengers, sailors and day-trippers alike, best appreciated slowly and without hurry.

Framed by the Coral Sea and untouched eucalypt hillsides, this remote sanctuary carries deep significance for the Ngaro people, its original custodians. No infrastructure interrupts the wilderness, only sand, tide and light in constant, quiet conversation.
