This dramatic natural waterfall cascades in seven separate strands down a sheer, moss-covered cliff face plunging nearly 250 meters into the emerald waters of the Geirangerfjord. Known locally as De Syv Søstrene, it stands as one of Norway’s most photographed natural wonders, its silvery threads dancing and merging against a backdrop of steep granite walls carved by ancient glaciers.

Legend tells of seven sisters who, refusing marriage proposals from suitors, were turned to stone as flowing water, forever dancing down the mountainside. Directly across the fjord, a solitary cascade called the Suitor appears to court them still, adding a layer of folklore to the geological spectacle.

Best appreciated from a fjord cruise or kayak, or from elevated viewpoints along the historic Ørnesvingen road, the falls are part of the UNESCO-listed West Norwegian Fjords.
